Rigel Sampelolo is currently a doctor candidate at Universitas Negeri Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. His research dissertation focused on the design and development of English guidebook which especially addressed for students of hospitality and tourism at Toraja Utara, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia.

English for Hospitality and Torism in Brief

Rigel's research dissertation was conducted at Toraja Wisata vocational school by recruting 16 students in total, content and language teachers, graduated students, and stakeholder. He applied interview, observation, diagnostic and achievement tests in order to obtained the desired data in designing and developing the guidebook.

The guidebook contains materials as well as activities for students of hospitality and tourism that focus on speaking ability. Speaking was chosen as the result of needs analysis he conducted prior to the design and development phases. In needs analysis, he found that students of Toraja Wisata vocational school lacked of speaking skill. Furthermore, they wanted to be able to speak natural English as it is required by institution as reflected in lesson plan.
